Weekly Home Learning

Home Learning

We all know the benefits of regular reading, so we encourage you to read regularly with your child at home. Sometimes, this could be them reading books to you (either books from home or some of their favourites from home), or it could be you reading to them. The children will bring home two books from school each week; one to read, one to share.

The book they bring home to read to you may be:

  • Wordless books (they tell the story to you, using the pictures)
  • Books with 1 word on each page (they say each sound and then blend the sounds together to read the word)
  • Books with repetitive phrases (e.g. This is my………., This is my……….)
  • Books linked to the phase of phonics they are currently learning (including sounds from that phase. These have a number on the side of the book)

At the moment, we are unable to communicate via reading records. We therefore ask that when your child has read x5 at home, you send a quick email/message on Class Dojo to their class teacher, to let us know. Your child will receive a dojo point for every 5 reads at home.

All books need to be returned on a Tuesday, where they will be quarantined for 3 days, before we change books on a Friday. Thank you.
