Mathematical Thinking

Mathematical Thinking

Mathematical thinking is central to building deep and sustainable learning. Teachers aim to ensure that taught ideas are not just ‘received’ passively but worked on by the learner. Pupils are expected to think deeply about mathematical concepts, reason about them, explain them and discuss theories with others.

Mathematical thinking involves:

  • Looking for patterns and relationships
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Making Connections
