We begin with a hook. This could be:
All designed to grab the children’s excitement and interest from day one.
From there we explore the unknown vocabulary, creating word banks and extending the children’s spoken language, reading as a reader to further develop the process of reading as a writer.
Dependent on the unit, we will work on setting or character through: a rap/ a wordle / hot seating characters/ texting/ tweets/ consequences/ conscience alley etc.
We then identify the purpose (is it to entertain, inform, discuss or persuade) and audience of our text. At that point, we can decide what form our writing will take. Idenitifying features of our chosen genre and looking at 'wagoll' (what a good one looks like) examples and creating our own success criteria so that the children are really clear about what 'good' looks while always considering the audience and purpose of our text.
