Observations over time involve observing something specific over a given period of time to identify changes that may contribute to a person’s findings. This type of enquiry can take place over any period of time and is commonly used within schools as it lends itself so well to our routine and timetable.
An example being, Year 1 pupils are asked to observe the changes across the four seasons. This could involve identifying a tree in the school grounds and observing all the changes that occur over the year. Children could take photographs, draw pictures, make a diary to record changes etc. Equally, children could observe how a sandwich changes over the course of four weeks.
